Photography for the 21st Century Sep 28, 2008 I am a total amateur photographer and am using this book to learn how to take better pictures. It is clear, simple and very informative. I feel like the quality of my pictures has improved in just a few short weeks.

Extraordinarily comprehensive Jul 21, 2008 In the 45+ years I have been a photojournalist I have never come across such a wealth of detailed technical and aesthetic information. Being relatively new to digital photography, I expected the depth of digital detail this book provides. But, the foundation of photographic principles with its genesis in film - lighting, grain, movement, blur, and process, is where this book illuminates the important matters that I didn't know, or know I needed to know, to more effectively create meaningful photographs.
This is the Bible of photographic knowledge. It explains in detail what the digital darkroom is about, and why we can't just cavalierly throw digital adjustments onto our work. (We're throwing away the good stuff without knowing.) Knowing "why and how" prevents us from doing permanent destructive damage to our image files, whether digital or film.
Get this book. You'll be saying "Oh, I didn't know that!" And your photographs will thank you.
